EIE 2018 Pitch

On Thursday 19th we’ll be pitching for 60 seconds on the big stage at EIE 2018 in the magnificent McEwan Hall, Edinburgh. Our journey started back in December when we were offered a place in the EIE cohort which we naively thought would just be an opportunity to pitch to a room of investors.

How wrong we were! The EIE slogan is #morethanaday and I think it sums it up perfectly what EIE are all about. They have organised world class pitching training for all 60 start-ups involved and done all they can to make sure we’re ready for the day. As well as providing countless networking opportunities and really helping us connect the dots and speak to the right people.

We’ll be spending the day by stand no.1 to tell anyone that is interested how we plan to revolutionise diabetes care. If you’re at EIE, call by and if you’re interested to hear more, get in touch.

EIE Pitching Training Round 2

Once again, we had a great two days in Edinburgh as part of the EIE Training for our big pitch in April. Being hosted at the RBS Business School in their global headquarters involved a packed schedule over the two days.

We received intensive training from Maryanne Johnson helping us perfect our 60 second pitch followed by a great event where we pitched to as many people as possible in one hour. The next day we received some advice from from Alison Barton, an opera singer who talked a lot about controlling your body when you’re pitching. And Bob Keiler, Chairman of Scottish Enterprise, who once again emphasised the importance of storytelling and giving us some great examples.

Definitely #morethanaday #EIE2018

EIE Pitching Training Round 1

In December we were accepted into the EIE 2018 cohort offering us an opportunity to pitch at their big conference in April and receive some fantastic training along the way. We just spent two days in the RBS Business School in Edinburgh receiving some great advice.

Bill Joos came all the way from Silicon Valley and gave us some great insights into pitching. Bill’s course “Life’s a Pitch” made us answer the basic questions like “what we expect from this pitch?” whether its 60 seconds or 20 minutes. And in 60 seconds, we just want people to bite the hook. This was followed by Bob Keiler, Chairman of Scottish Enterprise, who spoke about the importance of storytelling and practice.

Now it’s time to put the training into practice #morethanaday #EIE2018

Harwell Grant

In January we were awarded a £20,000 grant to develop our prototype and work with the Oxford Academic Health Science Network (AHSN) to work on our commercialisation strategy. The Oxford AHSN has experience helping a number of Medtech companies commercialise their innovations and has helped us navigate our way through the complex organisation that is the NHS. Maddison Product Design have also been involved in helping us design PenPal.

The Harwell Health Tech Cluster grant is funded by the Science Technology Funding Council and has been a massive help in taking our start-up to the next level. Thank you.

Scottish EDGE Finals

In December, we had a fantastic day at the RBS Headquarters being named Scottish Wildcard winners. We were also given the opportunity to pitch at the Scottish EDGE finals in front of a packed audience in Edinburgh.

As part of the prize, we’ve been awarded £10,000 which will be used to build an investor-ready business plan with DC Consulting to get us in the right shape for investment. We also have access to a wide range of support and EDGE alumni network which will help us make the right networks and prepare for take-off!

Converge Challenge Kickstart Runner-Up

We were named Converge Challenge Kickstart Runner-up at the Converge Challenge awards ceremony on Thursday, 28th September 2017. At Glasgow Science Centre, we heard from a range of speakers including: First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon MSP; Bob Keiller CBE; Professor Sally Mapstone; and David Sibbald OBE.

The £4,000 prize money is invaluable to us at this early stage and we will use the funding to develop our IP strategy. Converge Challenge has been a great experience and we are already planning to apply for the main Converge Challenge Category in 2018.
